Arrival of the bone marrow transplant drug
20 years in the grassroots, has been working to recruit volunteers for a bone marrow transplant.
And now that the subsidy from the Ministry of Health in the Japan Marrow Donor Program, was set to accept the officers of the parachutist.
Recently, to set a PIN number, name and address, PIN number, you will soon come online in the history of blood donation.
You find a transplant anniversary.
The story of the marrow donor, I will talk about their experiences with those who received bone marrow transplants.
And transplantation of bone marrow transplant from a donor, a transplant from umbilical cord blood into two categories.

In preparation for the transplant he began a debilitating series of radiation and chemotherapy treatments. In December of 1987, using his sister Vickie as the donor, Jeffrey underwent a bone marrow transplant.

Even through his painful and lengthy hospitalization, Jeffrey was deeply concerned about the well-being of the other young transplant patients. Once in remission, he insisted on visiting other children awaiting bone marrow transplants to encourage them and ease their fears.

Tragically, Jeffrey relapsed and, after a courageous battle, died on June 6,1988. But despite all his pain and suffering, Jeffrey won a great victory. His amazing depth of caring for others has brought even greater hope to children who are fighting for their lives.

Shortly before he died, Jeffrey wrote in his journal, "All kids should at least be given a chance to live." A transplant can, and often does, give children that chance to live-a chance that they otherwise would have been denied. There are children all around the world who are alive today because of bone marrow transplants. You can read some of their personal stories and thoughts on the Jeffrey Katz Fund.

It is in the memory and spirit of this heroic young man that the JEFFREY KATZ BONE MARROW TRANSPLANT FUND FOR CHILDREN has been established.

HOPE AND A CHANCE FOR LIFE

Can you imagine the horror of finding out that your child has cancer? Your hopes are raised when you learn that a bone marrow transplant can save your child's life. Now imagine being unable to give your child that chance because you don't have the money.

A bone marrow transplant costs a minimum of $150,000. Because of its tremendous expense, hospitals insist upon a financial commitment from an insurance company or full payment in advance before they will undertake this life saving procedure. In many instances families have no medical insurance or have policies that do not cover bone marrow transplants.

In addition to the direct cost of the transplant, families are faced with other substantial medical expenses, including computer donor searches and bone marrow donor harvesting. The personal expenses associated with treatment can add as much as 60% to the direct cost of the child's illness. Lost revenues from work, travel expenses, and responsibilities for siblings render it impossible for some families to be with their sick child. For a hospitalized child, there is no medical substitute for the love and support of a relative or friend during this traumatic time.

Families faced with these astronomical expenses often try to raise the money themselves. Their attempts are frequently futile or, by the time the money has been raised, it is too late to save their dying child.

The purpose of the JEFFREY KATZ BONE MARROW TRANSPLANT FUND FOR CHILDREN is to provide the money that is so urgently needed by these families.
